· Activity information:
Youth will be participating in sandboarding – sliding down large sand hills on a type of board. Youth are required to complete a short walk through the bush to the activity location and will be required to walk up to the top of the large sand hills.
Meet in the reserve on Dune Drive, Fern Bay (near plover Street)
Depart meeting place at 6:10pm after activity briefing with youth
Walk through bushland on cleared trail to Fern Bay Access Trail
Walk along Fern Bay Access Trail to Stockton Dunes
Remain in area at the end of Fern Bay Access Trail to complete sandboarding activity
Following assessment of sand dune surface, youth may be permitted to remove shoes. Youth will be advised by leaders at the time.
Depart dunes no later than 7:15pm and return to starting location via same route.
· What to wear:
- Scout group shirt or polo shirt and shorts
- Enclosed shoes
- Hat
· What to bring:
- Insect repellant (best to apply prior to activity)
- Head torch
- Bring water bottle, snacks, jumper
- Small first aid kit
- Something to slide down the sand dune on!
This can be anything (shiny/smooth bottoms seem to work best). A few suggestions include boogie boards, snow toboggans, cardboard/ corflute ‘for sale signs’. Remember, youth need to carry their board of choice approx. 500m to the sand dunes.
