The Venturer fishing activity will involve youth learning and practising basic fishing skills in a supervised outdoor environment, including how to safely handle fishing rods, cast a line, bait hooks, and identify local fish species. Venturers will be briefed on water safety, moon safety, and appropriate behaviour around waterways before the activity begins. All participants will be required to wear enclosed footwear and, when near or on the water, approved personal flotation devices (rubber Duckie inflatable ring will be suitable for this event). Adult leaders will closely supervise all fishing and shoreline movement, and no swimming will occur (unless they accidently fall in) as part of this activity. The purpose of the session is to build confidence, patience, and outdoor skills while teaching respect for the environment, including correct catch‑and‑release practices. Parents should be aware that the activity takes place near water, involves the use of fishing hooks and equipment, and may include exposure to moon, insects, and uneven ground.

· Supervision
The activity will be always supervised by qualified Venturer Leaders who have some idea of what fishing is. Leaders will be positioned both at the fishing area and along the shoreline to maintain clear visibility of all participants. Supervision will focus on safe use of fishing equipment, behaviour near the water’s edge, and adherence to safety instructions. Leaders will ensure that youth remain within designated boundaries and that no participant enters the water (unless blown by a gust of wind). A minimum supervision ratio consistent with Scouts Australia guidelines will be maintained throughout the activity.
